ABC Signature picks up English Language adaptation rights from Newen Connect for TF1 hit series “HIP”

09/15 – PARIS – Newen Connect, the distribution arm of Newen Studios, and ABC Signature, a part of Disney Television Studios, have agreed a deal that will see the US production company develop an English language adaptation of the hit TF1 detective series, HIP (High Intellectual Potential). The deal marks the first US adaptation of a French-language series. Work has already begun to start adapting the scripts of the successful French series, with showrunner, writing team and cast still to be announced.

Rodolphe Buet, Managing Director, Newen Connect said:HIP has been an incredible international success as a French-language title and has won over audiences worldwide, so we are not surprised that there is an appetite for an English-language adaptation. We were simply blown away by the enthusiasm of the ABC Signature creative teams and their sense of collaboration in meeting with the French producers. Their desire to build on the tricolore DNA of the original while also adding some additional anglophone flavor immediately convinced us that they were the right partners to develop our hit show for an English-language audience. Our core strategy at Newen Connect is to make European content available to audiences worldwide, working with the best partners, whether they be streamers or channels, whilst creating value for our producers. Thanks to great IP such as HIP, and our high-end drama series Christian and L’Opera amongst others, we are on track to achieve this”.

The adaptation of HIP is a natural next step in the evolution of the series which is produced by Septembre Productions (Jean Nainchrick), a Mediawan company and Itinéraire Productions, (Pierre Laugier and Anthony Lancret), a UGC company. The original series, created by Alice Chegaray-Breugnot, Stéphane Carrié and Nicolas Jean, and starring Audrey Fleurot and Mehdi Nebbou, has received both critical and commercial acclaim and has been the most successful French-language show on French TV for more than 10 years. Internationally, HIP has been sold to more than 105 territories and has garnered more than 175 million views globally to date, while a Czech and Slovakian version have already been filmed for Nova and Markiza respectively and are expected to launch soon.
